Live upload demand mainly follows configured total bitrate, plus protocol overhead, connection variation, and possible VBR peaks. Recording size follows average total bitrate × duration. Resolution, frame rate, codec, and quality influence the bitrate you choose, but do not enter the size formula again once the average total bitrate is known.

30 Mbps means 3.75 MB each second

At an average total bitrate of 30 Mbps, 10 minutes is about 2.25 GB and one hour about 13.5 GB. These are decimal units; some systems display binary MiB/GiB instead.

Live streaming uses upload bandwidth

Theoretical bitrate is not enough for a connection that fluctuates. Keep headroom between the stream and your measured upload speed.

Recording alone uses no internet

Bandwidth matters later when the file is uploaded, backed up, streamed, or played from another server.

A few useful distinctions.

Are 1080p and 30 fps a bitrate?

No. 1080p is resolution and 30 fps is frame rate. They influence the bitrate needed for a chosen codec and quality, but neither one tells you the actual bitrate by itself.

Is 2 Mbps the same as 2 MB/s?

No. Mbps means megabits per second. Because one byte is eight bits, 2 Mbps equals 0.25 MB/s, about 15 MB per minute or 0.9 GB per hour.

Why is recommended bandwidth higher than the bitrate?

A live connection varies over time and protocols add overhead. The margin is added to the stream bitrate: 30% means bitrate × 1.3, not that 30% of the final connection remains unused. Test your stable upload speed before going live.

Does recording video require internet bandwidth?

Recording to the device does not. Bandwidth matters when you stream live, upload the recording, back it up to the cloud, or play it over a network.

How do I calculate video file size from bitrate?

Multiply the average total bitrate by the duration in seconds, then divide by eight to convert bits to bytes. Results use decimal MB and GB; VBR, audio, and container overhead can make an encoder target differ from the final file.

Can I check a video's codec, bitrate, resolution, and FPS online?

Yes. Select a local file and this page parses supported media metadata in your browser. Some files do not report every field, so unavailable values are shown honestly and average total bitrate can still be calculated from file size and duration.

Is my video uploaded for analysis?

No. The browser reads local metadata and file size, calculates an average on your device, and does not send the video to MingLabs.
